In case you’ve been living under a rock, Apple has recently decided to get rid of the century-old 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone 7. This news obviously shocked (and devastated) the world. This isn’t the first phone to not have a 3.5mm jack, however. Brands like Gionee and Motorola previously got rid of this port for the sake of thinness, but the world didn’t mind. Apple says they did this out of courage, but critics and analysts say that Apple has just created a demand that wasn’t there before – a demand for wireless earphones. They’re been around, but most brands haven’t perfected the combination of great sound quality, easy of use and long battery life. Enter a startup from Hong Kong called musICANywhere and their first foray into the wireless earphones territory. And yes, their name is stylized like that, and they even had it patented. (I see what you did there.) This is our review of the the musICANywhere AD0503 Wireless Earphones.

The AD0503 is the first model of musICANywhere’s Adrenaline series that’s aimed at people who like to go to the gym or just like smaller in-ear wireless earphones. Unlike Samsung’s Gear Icon X, the AD0503’s earbuds are connected by a single flat cable. On it is a simple control panel where the listener can play or pause a song and increase or decrease the volume. The middle button is actually a multi-function button that’s also used to power on or off the device and to sync it with your phone or laptop. There’s also a small LED indicator light that tells you whether you’re device is turned on or if it’s ready for pairing.
The design can’t be more straightforward. It looks similar to the first Beats Tour earphones with a teardrop design and really round earbuds. It comes in Black and Red and Solid Black color options, which is also similar to Beats’. The earbuds originally come with secure fit cushions so they don’t fall off your ear when you run, but you have the option to remove them if they look too weird for you. The package also comes with 3 different sized ear tips for a custom fit. The earbuds are also magnetic, so you can attach one bud to another around your neck for security when you’re not using it. A nice touch, actually.
The earphones aren’t sweat resistant either, so if you’re planning to use them for your workouts, do not get them too wet by sweat, or don’t use them under the rain. Please. You’ll break them.

This is where I had the greatest challenge when I first used the device. I couldn’t sync it to my phone even after reading the manual. One button to do everything sounds like a great proposition, and it seemed like it. I didn’t know if the device was ready to sync, or was simply just turned on. Holding it for 3 seconds, according to the manual, turns it on, while holding it for 5 seconds and then releasing it prepares it for syncing. Holding it for more than 5 seconds when turned on powers it off. Confused me, but it took me about 10 tries before I finally got it. It’s difficult, but once you’re paired, it’s easy to pair again the next time.
SOUND QUALITY
Bluetooth earphones have always been a hit and miss in terms of audio quality. You can never have it all, they say. Some have great audio but short battery life, and some have the opposite. The AD0503 kinda hits both, but not quite there. Audio isn’t as deep as what you’d get from other earphones. It’s almost tinny that it’ll hurt your ear if you play a song with too much treble or high pitches. Bass is also as deep as what you’d expect. It fails to thump inside my ear as what wired earphones would do. It’s great at noise cancellation, though. You barely hear anything from your surroundings, which is great at some point, but dangerous in other situations.
It’s also important to note that the AD0503 only has an operation range of up to 10 meters, so you should never move far away from your phone if you plan on receiving or making a call using it. For reference, standard operation range on more expensive wireless earphones is at 30 meters.
You’d have to remember that these are wireless earphones, and only a few audio companies have found the perfect formula in delivering great sound wirelessly. The AD0503’s audio quality is what you’d expect from a pair of wireless earphones in its price range.

Battery life is where the AD0503 kinda flies. musICANywhere promises up to 5 hours of battery life, and in my use, I usually got up to 4 hours with mid volume levels. It’s great for a quick run and then some after, but it won’t last you a day. It’s rechargeable through a micro-USB port found on the control panel and takes a little less than 2 hours to fully charge its 120mAh battery.

Is the AD05053 a great pair of earphones? Yes and no. Yes, because it delivers what most wireless earphones in its price range can’t like great audio and long battery, but also no, because it doesn’t hit both well. It’s a good enough pair of wireless earphones if ever you need one, and at around P2500, it’s considerable. However, I personally believe wired earphones still are the best for music appreciation. But we’re entering an new era now, one that’s wireless, all thanks to Apple.
